I’m always happy for an opportunity to head over the mountain to Johnson City, because that means I’ll be stopping at Pal’s Sudden Service for a Big Pal and sweet tea. But when I get to satisfy my fast food craving and also visit with Becky and Kevin, and now with precious little Quinn, it’s truly a great day in the Tri Cities. You’ll recall that when we last visited with Quinn, she was not yet ready for prime time. But now she is, and she’s quite the little model!

Tiffany + Daniel (and Diesel) – Mars Hill Portrait Photographer

Had a chance to take advantage of the early fall colors recently for these portraits of Tiffany and Daniel and their furry “son” Diesel. We’re fortunate to be in a beautiful part of the country where spectacular views like these abound. And, as anyone who’s tried to make a photo involving a dog can attest, the cooperation of the four legged subject is key to the entire process. Fortunately, Diesel was on his best behavior (as were Tiffany and Daniel).

Cycling – Mars Hill College Mountain Bike Races

Mars Hill College’s cycling team hosted the SECCC mountain bike races at the Alexander Mountain Bike Park the first weekend in October, drawing entries from numerous conference teams and a few non-conference schools, as well. The Lions team members and coach Hugh Moran did an excellent job bringing the courses up to racing condition, including resurrecting the downhill track which hadn’t been used for several years. Asheville Zipline Canopy Adventures – Asheville Commercial Photography

A new outdoor adventure opportunity awaits you in Asheville. Asheville Zipline Canopy Adventures opened recently, just outside downtown. We had the privilege of climbing the huge main tower (no small feat for a photographer with a mild case of acrophobia!) to make some photos they could use for marketing the new business. And what a view from on high! With the city skyline staring you in the face, you can’t beat the scenery as you zip off on the long east facing run.

South Atlantic Conference Hall of Fame Inductions at Hilton Asheville Biltmore Park

Four former student athletes were added to the roll of the South Atlantic Conference’s Hall of Fame, and I had the honor of being selected to photograph the induction banquet again this year. As a proud alumnus of one of the SAC member institutions (and an employee of that same institution in the other half of my working life), I enjoy getting to play my small part in the event. This year’s banquet was at the new Hilton Asheville Biltmore Park.

This year’s inductees are (left to right in the photo below): Heath Bost of Catawba College, William “D.D.” Boyd of Newberry College, Ron Ladimir of Wingate University, and James Barber of your Mars Hill College fightin’ Lions (if that’s any hint as to which institution has my allegiance).

James Barber of Mars Hill College receives his Hall of Fame plaque from MHC President Dan Lunsford.

Heath Bost of Catawba College receives his Hall of Fame plaque from Senior VP Tom Childress.

William “D.D.” Boyd of Newberry College receives his Hall of Fame plaque from Senior Vice President Brad Edwards.

Ron Ladimir of Wingate University receives his Hall of Fame plaque from President Jerry McGee.

The evening also provided an opportunity to get new portraits of Assistant Commissioner Eliane Kibbe and Commissioner Patrick Britz.

Rainy Riding – SECCC Road Race at Clemson

Paid a visit to the in-laws on Saturday, which provided fortuitous timing to catch the Mars Hill College cycling team and several other members of the Southeastern Collegiate Cycling Conference in action at the Clemson Spring Classic. It was not the greatest day for cycling (nor for hanging out on the side of the road with a camera): a fairly constant cold rain and temperatures in the upper 40s to low 50s. Actually, it wouldn’t have been too bad of a day for casual cycling–I’m rather fond of a good ride in the rain, listening to the hiss of the tires on the wet pavement (although I’m not so fond of riding in three days of tropical storm remnants)–but I think the intensity of racing in the rain would not be such a pleasant thing. I expected there to be a lot of riders dropping out because of the conditions, but the results show only two DNF (did not finish) out of 73 riders. Congratulations, ladies and gentlemen!
